The more lifelike and rounded the characters are in RPG the better.
A well rounded character, complete with looks, thoughts, quirks, philosophies patterns and history all of his own is so much more fun to interact with and to play.
One of the ways of accomplishing this is spending hours and hours on developing a character, often stonewalling on the way which to me is really very deterring… (not so much the hard work but the fear of the blank page can really hold me back)
There is however another option - Shlemping, which is basicly recycling characters from whereever, into your game.
You could use passed characters for this, or movie stars, characters from book or history, as long as they are well rounded.
Now its not as if you are going to plant Bruce Willis in the middle of your RPG - just a character with his characteristics….This is not my Idea of course, and Berin Kinsman does a much better job explaining the concept than I am doing here, so please just click on the link and read more about Shlemping
